BDB Law Founding Partner, Chair and CEO Dick Du-Baladad was invited to be one of the speakers during the panel discussion on “Opportunities for Foreign Investors in an Open China Bond Market” during the China’s Capital Market Global Conference held in Shanghai, China last September 5, 2019. She shared her insights on open capital market, several ideas on how to encourage and develop this in the region, and the Philippine experience in promoting cross-border capital market transactions.
She shared two key-take-aways to further boost open capital market in the region:
- First, the importance of having an INVESTMENT INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE where investment-relevant information can be exchanged and updated readily, conveniently and accurately on a regional basis.
- Second, the need for more initiatives to harmonize the taxation of securities transactions region-wide because countries need to be competitive, and harmonization enables comparisons of the tax treatments across jurisdictions.
She also pointed out that these ideas will only be meaningful if they are operationalized and do not remain at the discussion level. (September 5, 2019, Shanghai, China)
