Irwin C. Nidea Jr. is a Senior Partner of BDB Law. He is an economist-lawyer with over 17 years of experience in the field of tax and corporate law, and the head of its Litigation and Transfer Pricing Team. He represents clients before the Court of Tax Appeals in tax assessments that involve significant amounts with high success rate in defending them.

Under Irwin’s leadership, the Firm’s Litigation Unit made significant strides in advocating the causes of its clients. His expertise and leadership led to their successful representation of cases involving various tax refunds of the largest petroleum corporation in the Philippines. He likewise successfully defended a retail subsidiary of one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines against several tax assessments by the tax authorities. Such successful defense was consistently upheld by the Philippine tax court in appeals initiated by the tax authorities.

As a testament to his abilities as a tax professional, he emerged as a key practitioner in the Transfer Pricing practice in a record span of just one year. In this short time, he made a mark as evidenced by the Firm gaining significant clients in need of Transfer Pricing services.

To name a few of these significant engagements, Irwin spearheaded the preparation of the Transfer Pricing Documentations for: (i) a group of one of the top educational institutions in the Philippines; (ii) one of the leading telecommunication companies in the Philippines and its subsidiaries; and (iii) several business segments of one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines. Considering that there is no prior documentation prepared and no transfer pricing policy in place, Irwin meticulously identified the related party transactions and evaluated the pricing mechanisms involved.
